SALARY RANGE: $49,069-67,080 (DOQ)


Responsible for planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the City of Glen Rose tourism activities and operations including marketing, sales, service and events in order to attract visitors to Glen Rose.  These activities include all aspects of promoting Glen Rose as a tourist destination.


This is an exempt, supervisory position which reports to the City Administrator, but is dependent upon the Mayor and City Council for approval of the department’s annual budget and project grant funding.  The CVB Director performs essential functions directed toward marketing, sales, and the promotion of Glen Rose as a tourist destination, including organizing and hosting special events and attractions. The CVB Director will supervise staff who manage the visitor’s center and who assist in coordinating events.  With respect to events and tourism, the CVB Director is the face of the City. Although not a primary function, the CVB Director will also assist the City Administrator in promoting economic development. Performance will be measured by changes in the local hotel occupancy rates and Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) revenues.


Valid Class “C” Texas Driver’s License, high school graduate or GED, some college or special certifications preferable.


Knowledge of:

  1. The travel industry, including visitor demographics;
  2. The principles, practices, and methodologies of advertising, public relations and sales techniques, particularly regarding social media and internet advertising; and
  3. State Law concerning the use of HOT dollars.

Skill in:

  1. Sales and marketing;
  2. Excellent computer skills, including working with Microsoft Office, GSuites, Canva, website editing, advertising and graphics programs;
  3. Negotiating contracts; and,
  4. Collaborating with other Somervell County Entities.

The CVB Director will:

  1. Make social media marketing efforts a top priority;
  2. Manage CVB events and office staff;
  3. Focus on marketing Glen Rose to the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, and to a lesser extent, other metropolitan areas within the state;
  4. Organize and consult with the City’s CVB Advisory Board;
  5. Establish and maintain working relationships with various public and private organizations, including, but not limited to, the Chamber of Commerce, Somervell County Expo Center, Fossil Rim, Dinosaur Valley State Park, Squaw Valley Golf Course, The Promise, Dinosaur World, the Creation Evidence Museum, and Barnard’s Mill;
  6. Work with the above entities to develop an integrated marketing campaign for tourism;
  7. Develop and distribute brochures and media advertising promoting Glen Rose in a manner consistent with the aforementioned integrated marketing campaign;
  8. Ensure that advertising and project grant dollars are used in ways that maximize increases in local hotel occupancy rates and HOT revenues;
  9. Develop a Request for Proposals (RFP) system for responding to opportunities for tourism, business training sessions, conventions, and weddings
  10. Scheduling local events that promote tourism and develop new events;
  11. Represent the City of Glen Rose in tourism promoting venues (i.e., the State Fair) in the Metroplex and other nearby areas of the state; 
  12. Provide regular opportunities for informing and interacting with local business owners and community leaders; 
  13. Cooperate with efforts to promote regional tourism;
  14. Work with local hoteliers to collect data for measuring the effectiveness of the CVB’s activities and programs;
  15. Monitor local businesses’ compliance with HOT reporting and payment requirements;
  16. Provide monthly reports to the City Council;


Physical requirements include visual acuity, ability to lift up to 40 lbs., speak publicly, and travel.  The job is subject to sitting and standing for long periods of time. Most duties will be performed in an office environment, but some will be performed outdoors in the cold or heat, depending upon the season, and possibly in inclement weather.  Working hours are not limited to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but often involve weekends and evenings.
