JOB SUMMARY
Direct the development and sustenance of conventions, conferences, small meetings, groups, and transient visitors’ efforts in the City of Glen Rose.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The Director’s role is to create and manage a comprehensive tourism development and promotion program for the City of Glen Rose. The primary responsibility is to grow hotel occupancy rates and tax revenues in the City through effective strategic planning, leadership skills, community assets, industry knowledge and relationships, and evolving tourism practices. Individuals must possess excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, as well as resourcefulness, enthusiasm, and positive energy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Lead and manage any staff and outsourced third-party companies (web marketing, social media, etc.) to ensure compliance with the Comprehensive Plan and Strategic Plan and return on investment for services rendered.
- Develop and oversee the execution of a Sales and Marketing Plan focused on all aspects of selling and marketing Glen Rose as a destination for leisure travel as well as conferences, small meetings, retreats, and social gatherings with overnight stays.
- Ensure that all grants, sales, and marketing dollars are spent to maximize the increase in hotel occupancy rate and tax dollars collected.
- Develop a Request for Proposal (RFP) system to provide lodging partners with the ability to respond to opportunities for tourism, conferences, weddings, and other small meetings or conventions.
- Identify and manage accounts and achieve sales goals by working with meeting and event planners, travel managers, procurement managers, training managers, and third-party companies in targeted markets, locally and state-wide.
- Implement strategies and initiatives to generate future business for lodging partners.
- Educate and promote the City of Glen Rose as a meeting destination for potential clients.
- Continue to develop and maintain relationships with Glen Rose lodging partners.
- Develop and maintain the budget for market-specific industry tradeshows, familiarization tours, and special events. Most tradeshows, sales calls, and special events will require business travel.
- Develop comprehensive action plans to accomplish the GRCVB's objectives and the City’s Strategic and Comprehensive Plans; update as needed according to market changes or other dynamics.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and Glen Rose lodging partners.
- Submit requests for proposals representing the client’s interests and follow up with timely communication to clients, partners, team, and management to secure the business.
- Organize and schedule individual appointments on sales missions.
- Perform sales prospecting, client development, lead production, and maintenance of CRM; process and follow-up on other resourced leads (i.e., third-party leads).
- Submit monthly reports to City Council, including hotel occupancy rate reporting
- Meet with the County Director of Tourism monthly to ensure cooperation between entities.
- Maintain confidentiality with all vendors and employee transactions and activities.
- Share knowledge and assist staff and colleagues with day-to-day activities to promote effective teamwork to accomplish the CVB's goals.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or industry certifications relevant to the tourism industry plus five (5) years of experience with proven success in convention and visitors’ bureaus or
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in travel, tourism, convention sales, and marketing with proven success working with convention and visitor's bureaus (PREFERRED).
- Understands and consistently implements all City policies and procedures

- Develops and sets personal goals for acquiring new skills and job growth
- Participates in conferences, workshops, webinars, and other opportunities to maintain current awareness of trends and for educational growth
- Works with staff and colleagues to discuss and resolve problems and provide ideas for improvement
Working Conditions
Ability to:
- Sit at a desk and operate a computer, calculator, typewriter, etc., for periods of up to three hours continuously
- Read, write, and exchange information
- Travel outside of Somervell County 20+ hours per week
- File papers
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Operate keypads, push buttons, and switches
- Work independently in the absence of specific instruction
- Meet the public courteously and effectively.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Class C Texas Driver’s License
- Eligibility to be bonded
